Paddyaker will stand trial for his grandfather's death

LAWTON, Okla._A Comanche County man has been ordered to stand trial for the death of his grandfather.

Aaron Paddyaker is accused of manslaughter in the death of 54-year-old Bart Hewes at Hewes' home last summer. Paddyaker appeared in court for a preliminary hearing Thursday afternoon where two witnesses testified, including a sheriff's deputy who investigated the crime scene. The deputy said Paddyaker handed him a statement that night saying he had been in the shower, and when he got out, Hewes was pointing a shotgun at him and that's when the fight started.

Hewes was found dead in the home from what was later determined to be blunt force trauma to the throat and asphyxiation. Paddyaker's attorneys are claiming self-defense and that he was allowed to be in his grandfather's home. Prosecutors say Hewes had taken that permission away, which is why he was trying to force Paddyaker to go.

His trial date has not been set.
