City residents concerned with broken street lights

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._ Many street lights throughout Lawton that should be helping to brighten up the city after dark have gone black. The number lights out of order are just a fraction of the thousands of lights throughout the city, but residents are taking notice.

The corner of SW 2nd Street and Lee Boulevard is one of the problem spots.

“There’s been lights out on this corner here repeatedly over and over for over the past year,” says Rick Moe, owner of Mac’s Grocery.

There are eight lights out of order on SW 38th Street alone, and that’s especially concerning for people who walk those streets.

“Anything could happen this time of the night,” says Chasity Rucker. People like Rucker, who we found walking down the street in near darkness.

For the electric company it’s a problem they are working on everyday.

“It’s a constant maintenance issue that we're always out working on lights,” says Tim Hushbeck, director of community affairs for PSO. “People really notice them because their so used to the light being on every night."

Hushbeck says people just like Rucker and watchful neighbors can be a big help by alerting them to any known outages. The Lawton Police Department also says patrol officers try to help in the effort of reporting outages to PSO.

If you would like to report an outage you can call 1-888-218-3919 or visit them online here.
