Crews work on downed traffic light

LAWTON, Okla._A pair of traffic signals were damaged last week in separate accidents and have been causing headaches of motorists ever since.

The traffic is finally flowing again at the intersection of Gore Boulevard and Sheridan Road in Lawton more than a week after a wreck demolished a signal light, and turned it into a four-way stop. That same situation is now causing delays at the intersection of southwest 17th Street and Lee Boulevard. While the traffic jam is a temporary headache for drivers passing through, it's been a constant hassle for Hubert Edwards, who has seen the traffic block the entry to his car lot for several days.

"For me, I just make a pause and turn right, right here. But I'm pretty sure everybody else is having a pretty big problem," said Edwards.

City officials said they made significant progress on Tuesday, and blamed the initial delay on a lack of enough tools to fix the problem. They had a new pole up by Tuesday afternoon.

They expect to hang the signal lights on Wednesday and have them operating shortly afterward.
