Man will stand trial for manslaughter come September

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._A Comanche County man accused of killing his grandfather last summer will stand trial in September.

A judge set the trial date for Aaron Paddyaker who was in court just last week for his preliminary hearing on a manslaughter charge.

The victim, Bart Hewes, was found dead in his home from asphyxiation and blunt force trauma to the throat. Paddyaker has admitted to the killing, but said it happened in self-defense, after his grandfather confronted him with a loaded shotgun after Paddyaker stepped out of the shower. Prosecutors said Paddyaker had no right to be in Hewes' home, and that Hewes felt he needed the weapon to force Paddyaker to leave.
