A free new Summer Athletics Program coached by professional athletes is being offered at Ingenium Charter Middle School (ICMS) in Canoga Park. The program, open to all youth ages 10-13, will run July 8 24, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 22250 Elkwood Street, Canoga Park, CA 91304 (on the Columbus Middle School campus). In order to participate, children must sign up at the school, which is open Monday Thursday from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. The deadline to apply is July 8, 2014.
We are thrilled to be able to offer a no-cost summer athletics program to students in our communities, said Glenn Noreen, Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Ingenium Schools. At ICMS, we believe that sports are an important part of a childs school experience, because, in addition to increasing student discipline, they establish a code of conduct with core values, increase self-confidence and self-esteem, boost school spirit and pride, and help instill academic excellence, added Noreen.
The program run by Ingenium Athletics Director, Daryl Vinson, a former member of the U.S. Air Force-Presidential Mission Staff who also played football for the Air Force Pacific Theater gives children an opportunity to learn about and participate in 3 different sports including: basketball, track and field, and soccer. Participating youth will also learn athletic development, which includes learning 9 skills sets for each program. Donald Carpenter, an All-City running back for Taft and Sylmar high schools, All-American running back at the University of William Penn, and NFL Europe and Level 1 pro football player will coach the Ingenium track and field program.
At Ingenium, education is about exposure and a journey of self-discovery, said Daryl Vinson, director of the Summer Athletics Program at ICMS. We want to build a sports program that builds on the core values of the Ingenium system, added Vinson.

About Ingenium Charter Middle School
Ingenium Charter Middle School motivates and engages students in their own education, molding them into global leaders. ICMS develops a school-wide shared vision that is inclusive of all stakeholders, encourages leadership, focuses on personal mastery of standards, and is committed to continuous improvement.
About Ingenium Schools
Since 2009, Ingenium Schools has used its Ingenium Learning System (ILS) a well-rounded performance-based educational program focusing on the needs of each student through a student-centered environment to provide high-quality instruction to hundreds of youth in some of Los Angeles most ethnically diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged communities. ICMS is the third school established by Ingenium Schools, a charter school management organization.
The ILS model is comprised of four key components continuous improvement, shared vision, leadership and personal mastery. It is based on the Re-Inventing Schools Coalition (RISC) program developed at Alaskas Chugach School District, which won the 2001 Baldrige Award, the nations highest award for organizational performance excellence.
