Andre Hudson’s “Wild for Color” Will Be On Display At Waxlander Gallery In Santa Fe, NM, From July 8th Through July 21st.
Santa Fe, NM, USA – June 27, 2014 /MarketersMedia/ –
Andre Hudson’s love of color is no secret to anyone, and her upcoming show at Waxlander Gallery, “Wild for Color,” is a tribute to that. Forty new pieces of Hudson’s work will be on display from July 8th through the 21st, featuring her signature western subjects as well as others. See how Hudson’s work is evolving and how her eye for color grows ever more refined as her palate and sensibilities shift.
“Wild for Color” will also feature a clay pre-casting of her first bronze piece. This may seem like a surprising turn for a painter to take, but to Hudson, it’s just another step on her artistic journey.
“I always think about things in 3D anyway,” Hudson says.
At the beginning of her career, Hudson illustrated skeletal and muscular forms for medical textbooks, strengthening her ability to think in all three dimensions, even in a flat image. Now she is always thinking about the physical structure of her subjects. Before she paints, she first pictures her subject from within, giving it a skeleton, muscles, veins—allowing herself to see the physicality inside so that when she paints the outside, it isn’t empty. This is an especially necessary step in order for Hudson to create the concreteness that exists in her paintings despite their dreamlike fluidity.
“I am an expressionist I think, but everything has to have perspective.”
That perspective is something that’s so wonderful about Hudson’s work. It gives the work a basis in reality that’s believable both physically and mentally. The viewer receives a truth that’s new, but definitely from Hudson.
Andre Hudson’s paintings have always been vibrant pieces of work, but no artist remains the same over time. With such a grounding in three dimensional thinking, it is only natural that Hudson expand into sculpture. Don’t miss what she comes up with next.
Andre Hudson’s show, “Wild for Color,” will be held at Waxlander Gallery from July 8 – July 21, 2014. An artist reception will take place on Friday, July 12th and attendees will be able to meet the artist and see the new works.
