Law enforcement ramps up for holiday weekend

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._The Oklahoma Highway Patrol will be cracking down on drivers this holiday weekend.

Patrol officers will be at checkpoints within Comanche County and Lawton city limits from July 4 at 11:00 p.m. to July 5 at 1:00 a.m. They will work together with the Lawton Police Department and issue sobriety tests in certain areas throughout the city. Lieutenant John Toombs says they will do all they can to ensure driver safety.

"The goal of the sobriety checkpoints is to get impaired drivers off the road and to prevent damage to life, limb and property," said Lt. John Toombs.

This weekend, OHP will also be looking for folks on the road not wearing their seat belts. Troopers will also be at Lake Lawtonka looking for people without personal flotation devices while on the water.
