Fort Sill sets up for summer concert

FORT SILL, Okla._Fort Sill is preparing for their annual Independence Day weekend concert, which is this Saturday night.

The crews started putting the stage together on Wednesday at the Polo Field, which can hold up to 12,500 people. This year's headliner is 'Little Big Town'. The gates will open at 6:00 p.m. with the opening acts starting at 6:45 p.m.

The stage is currently halfway set up and will be completed in time for the show Saturday night.

“We’ve been working on this actually for about a year so we’ll start working on next year’s concert in fact on the fifth of July as this show is going on. We expect to offer a great time for soldiers, for families, and the community. We’re bring in a great act to show some quality of life here in southwest Oklahoma over a long weekend,” said Brenda Spencer-Ragland, MWR Director.

With the multitudes of people expected to arrive for the concert on Fort Sill, security measures must be taken to ensure everyone is safe.

“We’ll have security both internally and externally. As always with Fort Sill it’s a team effort with our partners in the community. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, but we’ll take charge of security procedures. We just folks to come and have a safe experience at a great concert,” said Bob Pirtle, Provost Marshall.

Tickets are currently on sale for $30 and they can be picked at EZ-GO locations in Lawton, Altus, Walters, and Chickasha. Tickets can also be purchased at Adventure Travel, Crutcher’s Western Wear and online at Tickets will be $35 at the gate, children six and under are free.
