Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Police Department is adding more patrol units for the 4th of July.
Since firework sales began last week, Amarillo Police said they have received a couple hundred calls for firework violations. While this number may appear to be insignificant, these calls for service are expected to increase over the next 72 hours.
In 2013 on July 4th and 5th, APD responded to more than 450 calls just on firework violations.
Police said this is a huge demand in police manpower. This year, police are adding several officers to the patrol division to handle the increased call volume on this holiday season.
These additional officers will handle all types of calls for service, not just firework violations.
