Arrests made during DUI checkpoints

LAWTON, Okla_  While Fourth of July is meant to celebrate our independence some could not celebrate it responsibly.

"We found a large bag of marijuana, some scales," said Captain Robert Puccino of the Lawton Police department after one search.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Lawton Police Department ran DUI checkpoints through the area.

At least two DUI and two drug related arrests were made.

Near SW Lee and 56th St. a search recovered a large bag of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

"It's exactly why it is set up.  For drugs, drinking while driving, getting it off the streets.  It's been a big success," said Puccino.

As always it is never the right decision to drink and drive, and there is a safer way home.

Tipsy tow will be running until the morning of July 6th.

To get a free ride, call 1-800-222-43-57 and ask for tipsy tow.

They will provide transportation to your home for you, a passenger, and your car within a 15-mile limit.

As we head into some of the hottest days of the year, parents may not be thinking about how that heat can impact area playgrounds and in turn the children that use them.
