Medicine Park celebrates it's 106th birthday

Posted: Updated:

MEDICINE PARK, Okla._Medicine Park is celebrating it's birth all weekend long.  The town is turning 106 this week.  It all started in 1908, and continues today. People flock to the town to enjoy the quaint shops, boutiques, good food, and lots of local music.

For more than one hundred years medicine park has attracted all kinds of people, but it hasn't always been the place it is today. Andy Anderson, who is the Medical Director for the Medicine Park Fire Department, say's that even just thirty or forty years ago, Medicine Park wasn't a place you wanted to visit.

"I can remember being here as a soldier in the 70's and my Platoon Sergeant told me I wasn't allowed to be in Medicine Park after dark," said Anderson.

But now, Anderson says things have changed.  "A lot of people have really stepped up and fixed up things and cleaned things up and it really looks nice," said Anderson.

Everyone in Medicine Park is proud of the present and excited about the future. "People are coming here, looking to buy, looking to stay," said Anderson.

They are looking to escape the bigger cities.  Everyone from artists, chefs, families, and musical artists are attracted to Medicine Park.

Zach Holliday, of the band "Not Brothers,' thinks he knows why.  "Just the people. Everyone is welcoming. Music, art, everything and everyone. Just great people around here," said Holliday
