LATS bus fares to increase in August

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._ Lawton transit riders can expect to be paying a little more to get around town starting next month.

A 25 cent hike was approved at Tuesday night’s city council meeting. Regular rides will increase from $1.25 to $1.50.

Transit officials say the increase is to help offset rising operating costs, including gas, insurance and parts for their aging bus fleet.

LATS management says ridership has increased to more than 35 thousand riders per month, and they estimate the extra quarter will help to bring in more than $30 thousand in the first year.

This is the first fare increase since 2008.
