Permits discussed for seismic tests in area

Posted: Updated:

BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - A Texas energy company is asking Lincoln County to allow it to test for oil and natural gas.

Denbury Resources of Plano, Texas, is seeking permits for seismic testing to map sub-surface areas in Lincoln County.

The Daily Leader reports ( the board of supervisors took no action on the request.

Officials say seismic monitoring devices will be placed in a designated area that will be programmed to "listen" for vibrations that may indicate sub-level structures.

Denbury is offering landowners $5 per acre and will assume responsibility for any damage the company may cause to the property.

Once the permits are granted to Denbury, the company said it will begin testing in the area around the first of October.
