Five-hour standoff ends in arrest

DUNCAN, Okla._A suicidal man who held two people at gunpoint at a home near Duncan surrendered following a five-hour standoff with authorities.

Sheriff Wayne McKinney says the man's girlfriend called 911 around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday to a house on Beech Ave., about two and a half miles west of the Duncan Bypass. When deputies arrived, the woman ran out of the house and said her boyfriend was threatening to kill himself, her, and another man inside.

After hours of negotiation, the suspect released the man. Authorities finally persuaded the gunman to surrender around 9:00 p.m. Sheriff McKinney said there's no indication yet what set the man off. He was being taken to the hospital for evaluation, and then the Stephens County jail. The suspect's identity has not been released but McKinney says he has several outstanding warrants for his arrest.
