Military Appreciation Family Fun Day

FORT SILL, Okla_ Hundreds of soldiers and their families got to take advantage of some summer fun, under the sun Saturday afternoon.

This is the 12th year for the Military Family Appreciation Day.

It was all fun and games for military families Saturday.

Whether it be land, or water.

They even had a car show and no soldier had to shell out a penny.

"Soldier's get to come out here and not worry about 'How am I going to pay this next bill if I decide to take my family out here and have this fun," Staff Sergeant Micah Frasier said.

Frasier was out with his family and entered his rare 1966 cadillac el dorado into the car show.

"If you think about how many people are in the world with cars and how many people that are actually in the world I have one of the 2,200. Hard to find, very hard to fine," Frasier said.

He's been in about 40 other car shows, but he says it's much more than his car that brought him out Saturday.

"An event like this is just great and I'll always support it, whether I was bringing my car or not, my family would have been here," Frasier said.

Frasier says his family was eager to get here, too.

"They were asking about getting in the water since we pulled up.  I was trying to get a little help setting up, but they were looking at the water the whole time," Frasier said.

Garrison Commander, Glenn Waters, says Frasier's family is spending the day exactly how they should be.

"It's just a chance to take a little of a break of the busy schedule being a soldier or being a spouse or being a dependent to a soldier. It's a chance to blow some steam off in a family setting and having a good time," Waters said.

Waters says there are more events on Fort Sill in the near future.

At the end of September they have a Buffalo Burger Cook-out and the Retiree Weekend.
