3rd Annual Tomato Festival

LAWTON, Okla_ Tomato, tomato however you want it say it, they're were plenty of them to go around at this morning's tomato festival.

The event, sponsored by the Southwest Growers Association, brought more people than usual to the Lawton Farmer's Market.

There was fierce competition out there, as well.

Awards varied from best tasting, to best in show and even the ugliest tomato, and the big winner went to a teenager.

14-year-old Benjamin Penick, won best in show.

He said when he saw the tomatoes he just knew they would be champions.

"Whenever you see a tomato normally they have cracks or stuff in it and these didn't have any cracks at all.   They were the perfect size and shape for it," Penick said.

Penick has been growing tomatoes for a few years now with family.

He took home a cash prize this morning for placing first.
