Oklahoma Supreme Court to hear Common Core lawsuit

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Oklahoma Supreme Court justices are scheduled to hear oral arguments in a lawsuit that challenges the Legislature's repeal of Common Core education standards for English and math.

Arguments are scheduled before the state's highest court on Tuesday, about a month before public school students are scheduled to return to the classroom.

Parents, teachers and four members of the Oklahoma Board of Education allege lawmakers violated the board's constitutional authority over the ``supervision of instruction in the public schools'' when they repealed Common Core standards scheduled to go into effect in the upcoming school year.

The board has delayed action on whether to implement standards that were in place before the Common Core standards were developed.

Conservative groups maintained that Common Core represents a federal intrusion into Oklahoma's public education system.
