Police warn about new phone scam

LAWTON, Okla._The Lawton Police Department is warning citizens of a possible scam involving the children’s shelter on Fort Sill.

Individuals are making phone calls to area residents in hopes of taking donations of food, clothing, medical supplies, and other necessities for the unaccompanied children being housed on Fort Sill. The Lawton Police Department has made contact with multiple federal agencies and none of them were aware of any organization accepting donations in this manner.

It should also be noted that all of the children’s needs are being met by the government.

Police suggest that if you receive one of these phone calls you should be cautious about any information you give out. They are still working on identifying the callers.
