Colleges adding beer sales at football games

Denton, TX - Some college football fans in Texas have an added benefit to look forward to this upcoming season.

North Texas will begin selling beer on the public concourse level at football games this fall.

UNT officials announced that beer will be sold in controlled areas of the stadium away from a family fun area under the north end zone stands. The beer sales will be managed by the same catering group that already handles alcohol sales in the stadium's private club and suite levels.

Beer sales will begin at the home opener against SMU.

SMU already sells beer at basketball games and will also begin sales at football games this season. Houston, North Texas, Rice and SMU are the only Texas schools as of now that serve beer at football games.

The university of Texas began a pilot program in 2014 with beer sales at sports like men’s and women’s basketball and is working to add sales at football games.

UNT's athletic director says he expects public beer sales to be a revenue generator, also leading to additional ticket sales and an increase in food and merchandise sales.
