10-year-old boy sworn in as police officer

Albuquerque, N.M. - A 10-year-old boy will see his dream to become a SWAT officer come true.

The Albuquerque Police Department will swear in Andrew Martinez as the department's newest officer Friday in partnership with Make-A-Wish New Mexico.

Chief Gorden Eden will swear in Martinez, and he will receive his uniform and ID badge. Police will brief him on the fictitious "Sunday Morning Bandit" who has been terrorizing the city.

On Sunday morning, the police will call Martinez, saying they need his help. Police will pick him up for a helicopter ride, motorcade, and, of course, a doughnut stop. Then, he will capture the bandit with the assistance of a police dog.

After saving the city, Eden will honor Martinez with the title of police chief.

Make-A-Wish New Mexico grants wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
