Amarillo, TX - An Amarillo police officer finds drugs and a gun during an early morning traffic stop.
Around 1:00 a.m. Friday morning, the officer stopped an SUV near 10th and South Taylor for a traffic violation. The car's buyer tag was expired. While speaking to the driver, the officer noticed the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.
When the officer ran a warrant check on the driver, 27-year-old Christopher Allen Smith, he found Smith had an outstanding city warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers arrested Smith and found about 22 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine hidden in the vehicle's console.
22-year-old Stephanie Denise Aycock was the passenger of the SUV. Officers searched her purse and found a set of scales and a loaded .22 caliber revolver. Aycock was taken into custody on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawfully carrying a weapon. She was booked on the weapons and paraphernalia charges.
Smith was booked into the Potter County Detention Center for possession of a controlled substance less than 400 grams, possession of marijuana under two ounces, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the outstanding warrant.
