CU students premiering marijuana documentary Tuesday

LAWTON, Okla._ A group of Cameron University students are getting ready to premier a documentary this week that tackles the issue of marijuana in the state of Oklahoma.

“I just hope that you can take in all this information and make a smart (and) educated stance on your own,” says Komantcia Jones, head student producer of “To Be or Not To Be: Marijuana in Oklahoma.”

Students have worked for the past two months on the project. The group conducted interviews with some of the state's highest drug officers, as well as state representatives. They also traveled to Colorado where marijuana is now legal.

Jones says the main goal of the documentary is to give the audience a non-biased look at the controversial issue.

“I think people should walk away from this hoping to pull out their phone, and go on Google and search some things, and do their own research, and learn about this, and not just accept what they've been told but to do their own research before they decide to stance on the issue,” says Jones.

The documentary will premier Tuesday, July 22 at 7 p.m. in the Cameron University Theater. A question-and-answer session will follow with the filmmakers. Admission is free.
