Governor Fallin launching petition to close shelter

LAWTON, Okla._ Governor Mary Fallin announced an online petition she's created demanding closure of a temporary shelter at Fort Sill housing illegal immigrant children.

The petition demands the Ft. Sill facility close when the current lease with the Department of Health and Human Services expires in October, along with the closure of similar facilities throughout the country.

    A Sallisaw police officer shot a suspect Sunday night. Sallisaw police stopped a silver Ford Focus in the parking lot of the Northeastern Health Systems-Sequoyah.  The driver Jonathan Duane Atchley began assaulting two officers. Officers were forced to shoot Atchley. Atchley was treated at Northeastern Health Systems hospital but he died from the gunshot wound. The Sallisaw Police Department requested OSBI agents investigate the officer-involved shooting.

    Altus officials say a home caught fire because of an electrical junction box exploding. That blaze was reported in the 200 block of Poplar street, just after 8:00 Saturday night. Police officers on scene removed 4 dogs from a backyard because the fire seemed to be spreading. No one was inside the home at the time of the fire.
