Coffee Memorial Blood Center wants you to go "Over the Edge"

Amarillo, TX - The Coffee Memorial Blood Center is hosting their second Over the Edge Challenge to raise money for new equipment through a repelling adventure in downtown Amarillo on August 1.

Coffee Memorial will send daring participants who raise a minimum of $1,100 over the edge of the 10-story Eagle Centre Building.

As a non-profit organization, Coffee Memorial relies on the fundraiser to buy equipment to better serve medical patients across the Panhandle.

"Anytime we need new equipment, a new box truck to carry our equipment to blood drives or a new blood mobile, we have to either apply for a grant or raise funds. And this Over the Edge event is our biggest fundraiser of the year," said Suzanne Tally with the blood center.

This year they need to replace two centrifuges that separate blood in their laboratory and a box truck for their mobile blood drives.

"Two centrifuges are about $80,000. A new box truck to carry our equipment to blood drives where we do inside set-ups is $70,000. And so there are those constant expenses that are required in our life-saving mission that are not covered by any other means. And so that is what Over the Edge is all about," explained Tally.

If all 90 slots to repel in this year's challenge are filled, Coffee Memorial will raise $99,000. There are still about 50 slots available and it is not too late to sign up.

"We actually had three gentlemen who signed up and raised their money in less than 24 hours. So it's not too late. We're 10 days away and it's not too late," said Tally.
