Parachutist dies in jump

LAWTON, Okla._ A tragedy in Frederick where a member of the World War II Airborne Demonstration team died during a parachute jump.

In a statement posted on the group's Facebook page, the group said Tuesday night, Captain James Yost apparently suffered a heart attack in mid-air. Medical personnel were unable to revive him in the drop zone. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The ADT commander said Captain Yost did not report to anyone that he felt ill or was in poor health prior to the jump. He said all the safety protocols were followed, and the tragedy was not the result of a mistake by the victim or the team. Yost was an experienced parachutist, having served in the Army Special Forces. He had just joined the ADT in January. The team is conducting a school this week in Frederick in advance of their open hangar day Saturday.
