Oklahoma experiences eighth annual sales tax holiday

LAWTON, Okla._Oklahoma’s eighth annual tax-free weekend is coming up and that means it’s time to stock up on back-to-school clothing.

The sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday, August 1, and ends at midnight on Sunday, August 3. The weekend will offer shoppers an opportunity to purchase certain clothing items and shoes that cost less than $100 without having to pay state or local taxes.

Clothing included in the tax-free weekend includes any wearable item that is suitable for general use such as:

  • Aprons, household and shop
  • Athletic supporters
  • Baby receiving blankets
  • Bathing suits and caps
  • Beach capes and coats
  • Belts and suspenders
  • Boots
  • Coats and jackets
  • Costumes
  • Diapers, children and adult, including disposable diapers
  • Ear muffs
  • Footlets
  • Formal wear
  • Garters and garter belts
  • Girdles
  • Gloves and mittens for general use
  • Hats and caps
  • Hosiery
  • Insoles for shoes
  • Lab coats
  • Neckties
  • Overshoes
  • Pantyhose
  • Rainwear
  • Rubber pants
  • Sandals
  • Scarves
  • Shoes and shoe laces
  • Slippers
  • Sneakers
  • Socks and stockings
  • Steel toed shoes
  • Underwear
  • Uniforms, athletic and non-athletic
  • Wedding apparel

Items not included in the tax-free weekend include:

  • Accessories
  • Special clothing
  • Athletic footwear
  • Rental clothing/footwear
