Melendez ordered to stand trial

LAWTON, Okla._A Lawton man, accused of murder, was ordered to stand trial following his preliminary hearing.

Enrique Melendez, 21, has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Jimmy Kemp. Prosecutors said Melendez and a woman met Kemp near a vacant apartment complex back in February to arrange a drug deal. They said Melendez actually wanted to rob Kemp of the money he claims was owed to him on a previous deal. A nearby surveillance camera captured the confrontation which ended with Melendez shooting Kemp in the back.

During Monday's hearing, the judge ruled there was enough evidence to try Melendez for the murder. He'll return to court next week to learn his trial date.
