Cintas receives prestigious safety award

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._A high honor was given to a Lawton business for it's dedication to workplace safety.

Cintas is the first company in Lawton to receive the prestigious Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Award from OSHA. Only 38 businesses in Oklahoma have been recognized. The award is given to employers who voluntarily go above and beyond to ensure that programs are in place which promote the safety of workers on the job.

Cintas, which employs 30 people at its south Lawton plant, has not recorded an injury in seven years. It's also gone three years without a vehicle accident. Steven Rowland, branch manager, said they're setting the bar high for other businesses in Lawton to follow.

"Every partner here, and that's what we call our employees are partners, they have a responsibility to be engaged, to also ensure the environment is safe, keeping their work areas clean," said Rowland.

Lawton Mayor Fred Fitch, State Senator Don Barrington and State Representative Don Armes, along with corporate representatives from Cintas were at the ceremony. The Lawton branch will be re-evaluated every three years to make sure it is still achieving a high standard of safety.
