Oklahoma school bond would fund tornado safe room

Asher, OK - Voters in a central Oklahoma school district will decide later this month whether to approve a $1.7 million bond with a tornado safe room on the line.

A vote on the bond issue will be held in Asher on Aug. 26.

The funds would pay for larger dressing rooms which could double as safe rooms for more than 300 people in the case of a tornado.

The bond would be payable over 10 years and would not result in a property tax increase because it would replace bonds being paid off.

Currently, students must take shelter in a locker room or nearby church during tornado risks.

The bond would also pay for a lobby area with new bathrooms and a new concession stand.

The other addition would be a lobby area with new bathrooms and a new concession stand.
