Lawton church inspiring children for the upcoming school year

LAWTON, Okla._One local church worked this weekend to make sure kids didn't go without this school year.

Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lawton held their annual back to school bash this weekend.

Organizers say the goal of the event is to motivate and inspire kids before they head back into the classrooms. Backpacks and school supplies were given out to over 200 children, in addition to food, games and festivities.

Pastor Willie Smith says helping kids is what his church is all about.

"Seeing how important education is, it's important to us to provide them with the necessary supplies to make success possible. It's touching, it's fulfilling and that's what Bethlehem Baptist Church is all about," said Smith.

The event was organized by the Back To School Bash Ministries. Other agencies like the Lawton Police Department also came by to say hello to all of the kids and church members.
