Fire Marshal calls RV fire suspicious

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._Fire investigators are still searching for the suspect, or suspects, they believe intentionally set an RV on fire early Tuesday morning in east Lawton.

The RV eventually burned to the ground in Sherwood Village on Flower Mound Road just after 9:00 a.m. Fire officials say a passerby called it in after the flames sent thick black smoke into the air that could be seen all over town. Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in less than an hour, but not before two boats and another RV were lightly damaged.

Lawton Fire Marshal Mark Mitchell says the fire is suspicious because there have been three fires in the same community in the past six months.

"We can't say for sure there's a possible connection. It's obviously suspicious that we've had the number of fires in that concentrated area…more than we normally would," said Mitchell.

The damage is estimated to be anywhere between $10,000 and $15,000. No one was injured in the fire.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 580-355-4636.
