Sooner Tea Party Co-Founder to Appeal Conviction

Oklahoma City, Okla._The co-founder of the Sooner Tea Party said he will appeal his blackmail conviction now that he has been sentenced for the crime.

Tuesday, a judge ordered Al Gerhart to pay a $1,000 fine for threats made against a state senator. Now, the Oklahoman Newspaper reports Gerhart plans to appeal his conviction.

Gerhart faced up to ten years in prison, but the jury that convicted him back in May recommended that he not serve prison time. The judge followed that recommendation.
