Motorists urged to remember school zone laws

AMARILLO - As students prepare to return to class on Monday, the Texas Department of Public Safety is urging motorists to be mindful of traffic laws in school zones.

Drivers must obey the 20 miles per hour speed limit within the zone during normal school hours, as well as yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.

Motorists are also required to stop when children are entering and exiting a school bus.

The use of cell phones in school zones is also illegal.
