Duncan man says co-worker viciously attacked him

Posted: Updated:

DUNCAN, Okla._A Duncan man whose jaw was broken by a co-worker in a fight at work wants charges to be filed, and police are investigating the assault.

The assault happened last Wednesday at the Family Dollar distribution center.

The victim, Kevin Paige, said he feared for his life until his fellow employees were able to pull his attacker away. Paige has hospitalized until Friday evening with a broken jaw. He says the incident started with a man that claims he doesn't like people of color.

"I feel my jaw's already hurting, but I didn't pay it no attention. As I am trying to get up he goes to the back of my head," said Paige.

Paige said it all started when he was being overloaded with work and wasn't receiving help. So, he went to his supervisor's office twice to find out what was going on.

"I'm like, ‘Hey, we going to get some work today or are we going to it light up like Christmas trees?' because the lights come on whenever you're behind," explained Paige.

He said he was returning to his work station when he heard one of the co-workers in the office start yelling racial slurs and obscenities at him.

"'You're a dirty --- ------‘, that's what he said, so I said, ‘What?' It surprised me, surely I did not hear this. I said, ‘What did you say?' He said, ‘I just don't like you. You're a dirty --- ------‘," said Paige.

Paige says what happened next happened so fast he couldn't even protect himself.

"He hit me right here in my mouth. And at the same time he grabs me and slams me on the ground," said Paige.

Paige said it didn't stop there; he was fading in and out of consciousness from the constant hits to the head. He said the co-worker then tried to gouge his eyes out and put him in a choke hold, all while yelling racial slurs at him.

Duncan police said they are investigating the matter.

"As a detective we've got to be neutral. We have to take both sides of what occurred and put it all into the affidavit and send it over to the DA's office, and then they determine if charges will be filed or not. I see charges coming down on this," said Detective Fitzhough of the Duncan Police Department.

Now, Kevin and his mother want the employee to be brought up on attempted murder charges. His jaw is broken in two places and now it has to be wired shut for the next 4 to 6 weeks.

If charges are filed, you can count on 7News to keep you updated with the latest information.
