FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A North Texas teenager has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting and then killing a 6-year-old neighbor last year.
Tarrant County prosecutors say 18-year-old Tyler Holder was sentenced after pleading guilty Thursday to murder and other charges. Holder must serve at least 50 years before parole can be considered.
The body of Alanna Gallagher was found July 1, 2013, on a residential street in Saginaw, north of Fort Worth. Her head was covered with plastic bags and her body wrapped in a tarp.
Prosecutors say DNA linked Holder to the crime.
They say later that month Holder set fire to the Gallagher home, burning a portion of it.
He also pleaded guilty to attempted capital murder for shooting a police officer who later attempted to arrest him.
