Police work to identify reported thief

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._ Police are searching for a woman who stole nearly $100 from a woman who tried to help her at a local car wash.

The victim told police she was at the Aqua Car Wash on Sheridan Road around 9:00 a.m. when a black female approached and asked for help. The woman claimed she was out of gas and stranded.

The victim drove the woman to a house to retrieve a gas can, but the victim says once inside the home, the suspect never came back out. The victim told police she knocked on the door but when no one answered, returned to her car. That's when she discovered the money she left in her car's console was missing. Despite the theft, the victim says she only wants her money back, and doesn't want the woman to get in trouble.

"Honestly, I'd rather give her a second chance. I don't want to go ruin her life and make her, and all this. I just want my money back. It just sucks," said Sunny Hubertus.

The woman's image was captured on surveillance video. Police are working to identify her.
