LAWTON, Okla. (AP) - Lawton police say they're investigating the death of a 48-year-old inmate at the city jail.
William Harris was found dead Thursday by a correctional officer checking cells overnight. Police say he was slumped over in his cell and suffering from an unspecified medical condition.
He was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The state medical examiner's office says a limited autopsy has been completed but the cause of death hasn't been determined.
Harris was arrested Sunday on a domestic abuse complaint. His girlfriend told police he threw a can of beer at her. Harris pleaded not guilty to the charge but had not posted bond.
The State of Oklahoma Jail Administration is investigating the death.
