Lawton High's Barnett commits to Nebraska

Lawton High football star Jalin Barnett has verbally committed to Nebraska. Barnett, who fielded offers from more than a dozen other schools across the country, chose the Cornhuskers thanks in large part to his relationship with head coach Mike Riley, who has been recruiting him for a few years now.

"I really like coach Mike Riley and coach (Mike) Cavanaugh. I've known them since they were at Oregon State," Barnett said. "They just switched shirts. I really do think they are a great coaching staff and I decided to play with them."

Barnett isn't the first Wolverine offensive lineman to choose Nebraska. LHS great Will Shields was an All-American for the Huskers in 1992. Barnett is excited to follow in Shields' footsteps.

"He's making it to the Hall of Fame," Barnett said. "I want to make it to the Hall of Fame. I feel like going to Nebraska, I can get there just like he did, with a lot of hard work."

ESPN has Barnett ranked as the No. 43 prospect in their Top 300 recruits of 2015. He can't officially become a Husker until National Signing Day on February 4th.
