Area wrestlers take State by storm

Eight wrestlers from southwest Oklahoma took the mat for the Wrestling State Championships on Saturday night at State Fair Arena.

At 106 pounds, MacArthur's Wyatt Adams defeated Altus' Gage Gomez in a 5-0 decision. Adams was the only Highlander to take State on Saturday.

Altus' Montorie Bridges was looking to complete an undefeated season at 120 pounds against Dillon Prutch of Coweta. Bridges was dominant throughout on his way to a 17-2 victory and a state championship.

At 160 pounds, Cameron Loving of Altus was also looking to finish the season undefeated against Donovan Washington of MacArthur. Loving made it look easy, winning 9-0. Loving was later named the Class 5A Wrestler of the Year.

Down in Class 3A, Comanche had two wrestlers in the finals. However, they both settled for second place finishes as Sam Schuermann of Blackwell defeated Skylar Stengel 9-3 at 182 pounds. At 145 pounds, Kamren Vanbuskirk lost to Geary's Ross Shawnee by technical fall.
