A Child Who Hopes: Anthony

A Child Who Hopes: Anthony

LAWTON, Okla._Imagine being a teenager, living in a shelter and waiting months for someone to adopt you. That's the reality of a 14-year-old boy who dreams of one day finding a family to call his own, his only requirement is that you must love dogs.

Taking care of canines is something Anthony loves to do. So, we spent our day at Fresh Pet Dog Grooming and Academy learning the ropes. It takes a special kind of person to be a dog groomer, and Anthony was a natural from the start. He was kind and attentive to each pet and curious about their care.

"Why does the water come down?" Anthony asked.

"Right here, it drain's right here. Come, look. Right here's the drain and then it comes from right here and that's where it drains out of the whole place," the groomer explained.

Anthony has developmental delays and suffers from a degenerative eye disease known as Best's Disease, but he doesn't let that or anything else hold him back. In fact, he's looking for a family who can support his needs and keep up with his extracurricular activities.

"I like to go fishing. I like to go swimming. I like to play video games. I like to play basketball and football," said Anthony.

He also plays percussion in the school band.

Anthony says he would like to be adopted by someone who has other children because he's always wanted a sister and brother. But the one thing that would make him even happier is finding a family who has pets.

"I think they are pretty cool and I would like to have a dog, because I think I could take care of one," said Anthony.
