Adams charged in death of foster child

LAWTON, Okla._The Comanche County woman who was accused in the death of her two-year-old foster child has been charged with first-degree murder.

Heather Adams has been in custody since the boy's death Sunday night. The court affidavit says Adams told investigators she hit the boy with her fist. Adams' husband told investigators he found the child on the floor, unconscious and not breathing. He said Heather told him she had beaten the boy, but did not mean to. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The boy's death comes less than two weeks after the state placed the victim and his younger brother in the woman's care. Adams is behind bars on a $150,000 bond. The crime of first-degree murder-child abuse is punishable by death, life in prison or life without parole.

A preliminary hearing has been set for April 28.
