Corum VFD plans fundraiser, recruitment

CORUM, Okla._The Corum Volunteer Fire Departments is planning a special fundraiser this weekend in hopes of not only raising money, but sparking interest in people who would like to join the department.

The Corum VFD will host a fundraising barbecue Saturday starting at noon. It will include brisket donated by Delbert's Supermarket and side dishes provided by the families of firefighters. There's no set cost for the meal, but donations are welcome. Fire Chief Kevin Lindesmith says the fire department runs mostly with the help of dues and donations.

"We always need equipment. Volunteer fire departments are mostly funded by fire dues and donations and equipment is a big cost for us…equipment and upkeep,” said Chief Lindesmith.

About 15 men make up the department, but Lindesmith says they would like to have about 18-20 members. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to bring a friend who might like to join.

The fire station is located three miles south of Corum near the intersection of E1860 Road and N2740 Road.
