Officials dedicate 112th Street

LAWTON, Okla._What was once a bumpy and treacherous stretch of road on 112th Street is now a smooth ride for residents and commercial drivers.

The City of Lawton, along with Comanche County commissioners, officially dedicated the 2.4-mile stretch of road between Cache Road and Lee Boulevard. The reconstructed road runs just past the Goodyear Plant and is complete with new drainage systems and sod on the sides. Commissioner Don Hawthorne says the new and improved road benefits drivers and the local economy at the same time.

"The road was justified because of Goodyear and the expansion and the industrial park right here, because of the heavy traffic. And so that was the justification for the road, but you can imagine this road gets a lot of traffic on it, so it just makes a safer road for everybody," said Commissioner Hawthorne.

Now that the major road work is done, only the center line needs to be painted. The line will be painted next week.
