Lawton man charged in beating

LAWTON, Okla._A Lawton man accused of a brutal beating last week was charged with the crime Monday.

Lucas Christon appeared in a Comanche County courtroom where he was charged with aggravated assault and battery, escape from arrest and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Christon was arrested hours after the victim, David Leaston, was found lying in the road unconscious near an apartment complex in northwest Lawton where the suspect was later arrested.

Police found Christon hiding in his apartment closet. He was identified after surveillance cameras captured the attack on video. Once in handcuffs, Christon ran from police, but was later captured. After patting him down for weapons, police found a drug pipe in his pocket.

Christon is being held on a $300,000 bond.
