Cameron students help with relief efforts

LAWTON, Okla._Tremors from a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that devastated the country of Nepal Saturday, were felt by students at Cameron University, who are now hoping to lend a helping hand.

The quake killed more than 4,000 people, and left nearly 100,000 homeless. The tragedy has inspired many students who call Nepal home, to do what they can for their families and friends.

"We need the food, we need the relief materials, and we need the test for the people that have their houses completely destroyed. Everything helps, anything and everything helps. A dollar really can make a difference,” said Sambridea Poakharel, Cameron University Nepalese Association.

Every dollar donated can purchase about five bottles of water. So far, the group estimates they have raised close to $2,000.

If you would like to donate, you can stop by their donation booth in the McMahon Centennial Complex. Donations can also be made online at unicef.org, and redcross.org.
