Lawton legend Ron Hartline passes away

Ron Hartline, one of the greatest athletes and coaches Lawton has ever produced, has passed away at the age of 76.

Hartline was an All-State running back at Lawton high in 1956. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the All-State Game, Oil Bowl and National All-Star Game, just before enrolling at the University of Oklahoma in 1957. He played fullback for Bud Wilkinson's Sooners in 1958-1960, and was a co-captain on the 1960 team.

After his playing career, Hartline became the first head football coach at MacArthur. He led the Highlander program for 24 years, taking Mac to State Championship appearances in 1971 and 1990, before retiring in 1992.

He was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2014.
