Deaths due to influenza in Oklahoma now stand at 113

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma State Department of Health is reporting the 113th death due to the flu as the season that has seen a record for deaths in the state appears to be winding down.

The department said Thursday that one person has died due to flu in the past week.

Epidemiologist Laurence Burnsed has said the flu season that began Sept. 28 appeared to be coming to an end as the number of new cases has been trending downward.

The previous record of 72 deaths that was set last year was broken in February.

Tulsa County has recorded the most deaths this season with 23 while Oklahoma County is second with 16. No other county has more than six.

Eighty-five of those who died were 65-years-old or older.
