Lawton baseball teams take shelter during OKC storm

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla._Two Lawton baseball teams were right in the thick of Wednesday's severe storms that hit the metro area.

Lawton Public Schools athletic director Mike Moore says the baseball teams from Lawton High and MacArthur High were playing in regionals when they were forced to take shelter.

"We had Lawton High going to Yukon and MacArthur over at Carl Albert in the Mid-Del area. MacArthur was probably in the storm shelter for a matter of four to five hours, at least. I would think probably for Lawton High over at Yukon, if I could put the time frame together correctly, they were probably in shelter for three to four hours before it was deemed that it was safe for them to travel," explained Moore.

Moore says the Oklahoma Highway Patrol found a safe route for Lawton High to travel home, but the MacArthur team had to spend the night in a hotel. Moore says all of the kids are safe and sound.

He credits the athletic directors from Yukon and Carl Albert for taking good care of them and keeping them safe.
