Waurika EMS looking for volunteers

WAURIKA, Okla._Waurika EMS will be teaching a class to recruit new local volunteers for the service.

The emergency medical responder class will cover CPR and defibrillator training. It will be an 86 hour course starting on June 8th running through the month of July. It is offered once a year by the service.

Lori Freeman has been a volunteer with the service for 7 years. She says it is a great chance to help the community in a positive way.

"Public servants that want to help our community that want to be involved in something like this. I mean it does take a special person to do this job sometimes it is intense sometimes it's sad sometimes you get a lot of joy out of what you do but we need people that are willing to commit to it," said Freeman.

The service is hoping to recruit 5 more people. The deadline to sign up for the class is next Friday May 15th.The class is also free to first responders in the area.
