CCMH offers free stroke risk assessment

LAWTON, Okla._Comanche County Memorial Hospital is offering free stroke risk assessments in honor of American Stroke Month this May.

The assessments include a blood pressure check, BMI and carotid artery screening to see if there is blockage in the carotid arteries. Yvonne Hall , registered nurse and community outreach coordinator, says the goal is to prevent strokes and hopefully this screening will help people understand the risks and what they can do to reduce their chances of having a stoke.

"We want them to learn the signs and symptoms so they can get to the hospital quickly. Because we know if you can get to the hospital within that golden hour of an event occurring, your chances of recovery are so much better," said Hall.

Hall says anyone who is fifty or older, or has a family history of stokes, should get a stroke risk assessment. If you didn't get a screening Tuesday, they will also be offered Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Oakwood Conference Center, which is located in the outpatient center.

No appointment is needed.
